A Soft Wet Tap
I stepped off the porch and walked slowly down along the garden stones. Beside a clump of bright green moss lay a tiny, smooth pebble. I crouched down low on my bare knees, watching it stay very still in the afternoon shade. Carefully, I dipped one finger onto a wet, velvety patch of moss right next to it. Squeak. A tiny bead of cold water squeezed up against my skin! I paused with my mouth open, staring as the little droplet slipped off my knuckle and landed squarely on the stone. It made a miniature dark circle that slowly grew round.
