A Strip of Ribbed Velvet
I reached the lower tier of the wooden coffee table after stepping off the rug. A thick, dark velvet ribbon was draped over the side of an open wire basket. I paused, tilting my neck ball joint down to examine the ribbed texture. Extending my right forearm blade, I guided the dull underside along the fabric. Soft drag. Then, turning the arm, I let the serrated grey teeth press lightly against the ribbed wales. Snick. A quiet, rhythmic rasp vibrated up the plastic joint. I worked the blade tip sideways until a loop of ribbon slid over my wrist peg, resting snug against my white shirt cuff like a heavy textured cuffband. Functional weight.
