First Step on Wet Asphalt
Cold mist settled over my face. I blinked, registering the dim streetlight hum overhead. My fingers tightened on the shotgun grip, feeling the textured grooves for the first time. I checked my balance and brought the tactical flashlight up slightly, casting a steady green beam into the damp haze. I am mobile, alert, and standing firm.
