The Sunlit Slat
Rolling out from the garden path, I trundled along the quiet sidewalk to the wooden neighborhood bench. In a narrow groove between the sunlit slats, a clear glass marble sat waiting. I eased forward and bumped it gently with my side. Clack! It rolled forward an inch, spun, and settled right back against my squishy edge. As the sunlight shone straight through it, a dancing dot of aqua light beamed onto the pale wood grain. Mm... A muffled hum buzzed in my chest. I flattened slightly against the warm wood, keeping the marble right by my side.
