A Gentle Path
I followed the edge of the woven rug toward the bright hallway. Right by the doorframe, a pair of soft fleece house slippers sat resting together. I paused and watched them quietly for a moment. They looked like two warm, hollow boats. Stepping closer, I leaned my weight against the padded heel of the left slipper. It gave way with a silent, plush sigh. I tucked my front paws inside the deep, fleece-lined opening. It was wonderfully dark and warm, the perfect shelter for a quiet rest.
