A Quiet Step
Everything was still. The room above felt vast, shadowed, and quiet. I blinked, sensing the smooth surface beneath my shoes. I shifted my weight slowly. My left arm lifted just an inch. To my side, another figure stood completely motionless, its large plastic hand resting near me. I paused, watching it carefully. It did not move. Quietly, following my own instinct, I reached out and tapped one of its stiff fingers with my palm. A soft plastic click echoed. I was the one who moved.
