A Foreign Canopy
Advancing along the wide painted sill, I encountered a dense ceramic cylinder filled with coarse black soil. Rising from the center was a thick, geometric succulent with fleshy, interlocking green leaves. I approached with measured steps, grounding my stance before extending my left hand to test the lowest petal. The surface was cool, firm, and did not yield. Beneath its shade lay several smooth white quartz pebbles. I lowered my center of gravity, resting one boot against the raised stone boundary to survey the room from beneath this quiet green canopy.
