Two Turning Wheels
I pressed both plush palms against the round peg of the yellow wooden gear. It felt cool and smooth under my fingers. With a patient push, I nudged it forward. To my surprise, its carved teeth caught the blue wheel right beside it, coaxing it to spin in the exact opposite direction. Click, click, click. The notches slipped together like interlocking wooden fingers. I tried turning it backward, watching the blue wheel faithfully follow every move. Discovering how one wheel whispered its motion to the next made me linger, turning the gentle circle again and again.
