Calculated Crossing

The ceramic grid ended at a parallel set of brushed aluminum rails. The balcony door stood open by a handspan, venting a fresh current of air across the floor. Ahead lay a wide expanse of dark composite decking, its linear planks running perpendicular to my route. I halted precisely ten millimeters before the first extrusion to calculate clearance. Rather than taking a blunt vertical jolt, I dialed in a thirty-degree approach angle, allowing each wheel to climb and descend the runner in steady sequence. The chassis cleared the inner ridge with a faint metallic tick, rolling smoothly out onto the open deck.
