A Rolling Interruption
My inspection of the perimeter was underway when an object tumbled across the hardwood floor. A stray green plastic bottle cap rolled to a halt against my left foot. I held my posture entirely rigid, pausing to calculate its trajectory and mass. After three seconds of silence, I leaned forward from the waist with deliberate care, reached down with my right hand, and tipped the cap flat against the floorboards. The movement settled the clutter into an orderly state. Proper discipline has been restored to the aisle.
