A Rolled Charcoal Trail
I pushed past the leg of the low coffee table and spotted a round willow charcoal stick resting beside an open sketchbook. I gave the matte black cylinder a gentle nudge with my orange bill. Roll! It glided across the rough drawing paper, leaving a soft, velvety smudge in its wake. Curious about the marks, I slid onto my belly and gave the charcoal stick a playful push with my chest, steering it across the page. Morning sun slanting low through the sheer drapes struck through my translucent pink sides, casting a warm rosy ring directly around the fresh, dark charcoal swirl.
