A Chalkboard Challenge
I scrambled out of the garden shed and trotted all the way past the front gate into the neighborhood street! Right on the sidewalk outside a corner shop stood a heavy wooden A-frame chalkboard sign, planted wide like a giant timber mountain! No going around it—not me! I backed up three paces across the concrete, dropped my curved horns low, and charged head-on right into the bottom wooden crossbrace—*THWACK-CREAK!* The entire heavy frame jolted, its iron hinge shuddering with a bright, metallic rattle that vibrated all the way through my skull! A small cloud of white chalk dust puffed off the board, dusting my snout in pale speckles. I planted all four hooves and let out an upbeat bleat of pure morning triumph!
