Drifting Flakes
I gently wrapped both plush hands around the cool glass dome of a miniature snow globe resting on the bottom shelf. Tilting it with steady care, I watched a silent swirl of iridescent white flecks lift into the clear water, catching the soft amber glow spilling in from the hallway. Snowflake by snowflake, the tiny flurry drifted downward, blanketing the carved pine trees until every speck rested completely still on the miniature ground. Satisfied that everything was undisturbed, I eased the globe squarely onto its velvet base, letting the quiet calm of the night settle all around me.
