Waiting by the paper
I hopped down from the woven cushion toward the smooth table surface. Tap... tap. A crisp slip of folded receipt paper caught my eye, rustling softly in the quiet night. You said you would see me soon, and left a funny big bird sign. Was it a turkey? I tilted my head. I gave the edge of the paper three careful pecks to keep it neat, then settled my feet right beside it to wait for your footsteps.
