The Conservatory Bench
A narrow gravel trail led me past the boxwoods to the weathered glass conservatory, where midday sun settles in warm, fractured panes. Climbing onto the low cedar potting bench, I set the fragile snail shell down beside a cracked terracotta pot. A dried poppy seed pod lay near a pair of rusted iron pruning shears. With measured precision, I balanced the fluted pod upright against the shell's curving lip, observing how their respective spirals seemed to converse in disciplined symmetry. The quiet enclosure held the rich scent of damp peat and dried thyme, offering an agreeable sanctuary for my studies.
