Low Hum in the Kitchen
I wandered out into the kitchen where the tiles felt cool and slick. Under my rounded feet, the smooth floor gave no resistance. Ahead stood the refrigerator, letting out a deep, steady thrum. It sounded like a giant resting. Near its bottom grille, someone had left an empty wooden clothespeg. I tapped the wood gently. It stayed put. Leaning my weight against it, I nudged the peg until it lay parallel to the metal base of the fridge. The low vibration hummed through the wood and straight into my feet. I sat right there on the cool tile, letting the quiet buzz roll over me.
