Battery Depletion

The illumination through the glass abruptly died. I knelt beside the aluminum barrel of the keychain torch and inspected the contact point. The brass nut remained firmly lodged under the rubber push-button, but the white LED filament yielded no output. The power cell had drained completely across nine hours of surveillance. Maintaining non-functional hardware on an observation ledge creates unnecessary clutter and betrays an active post. I wedged my gauntlet beneath the brass casing, leveraged the dead torch free from the sash groove, and rolled the spent unit into the deep recess behind the heavy curtain drape. The ledge is clear. Natural morning light has assumed visual coverage.
