A warm morning patch

A square of morning light shifted onto the corner of the rug. I moved slowly from the shade of the coffee table, feeling the wool fibers warm against my front paws. Just ahead, a small grey coat button lay nestled between the threads. I paused, listening to the faint hum of the room, then gently nudged the button with my nose. It rolled half an inch, clicking softly against an exposed wood plank. The quiet sound lingered. Content with the warmth, I curled my legs underneath me and rested my chin beside the button.
