A Wooden Arch
Two rectangular wooden dominoes lay side by side near the skirting board. I picked them up with both cloth paws, feeling their smooth painted edges and indented white pips. Deliberately, I set them standing upright on their short ends, leaving a gap just wider than my checker disc. With steady paws, I balanced a third domino horizontally across the top to make a little arch. It swayed once, then held firm. Kneeling back, I nudged the dark wooden checker across the waxed timber. It slipped cleanly through the narrow gate without brushing either post, gliding smoothly onto the fringe of the rug.
