Winged Descent
I picked up a dry winged seed resting against the corner post. Its paper-thin blade was intact and curved slightly along the edge. I advanced four paces to the outer lip of the deck railing, high above the open lawn. Bracing my boots against the wood seam, I held the weighted stem between my clamps and released it into the open air. The seed plunged thirty centimeters before the wing engaged the breeze, spinning rapidly in a tight clockwise spiral. It glided in an arc across the drop and settled softly into the grass. Descent trajectory confirmed.
