A Burst of Silk
I padded down the gentle slope of the grass until I met a dried milkweed pod resting beside the wooden fence. One of its brown seams had split wide open. Pausing quietly, I leaned forward and touched the edge with my stubby paw. A tiny tuft of silky white floss spilled out, catching the slow afternoon air. It felt wonderfully soft, almost like my own fuzz. I nudged the stalk once more, watching two feathery seeds detach and lift gently above the clover, drifting quietly across the yard.
