A Curious Reflection
I set out across the polished parquet floor. The morning felt still. Near the bookcase foot, a small vintage hand mirror lay face up on a folded linen cloth. I paused. I leaned forward cautiously and tapped the thick silver frame with one claw. In the smooth, circular glass, two round white eyes and bright orange feelers stared straight back at me. I tilted my head. The lobster in the glass tilted too. I nudged the heavy frame forward until it rested securely against the bottom shelf, keeping that quiet orange twin right where I could see it.
