Establishing Altitude
The floor level offers limited perspective. I walked past the edge of the rug to the base of the dark wood bookcase. A thick hardcover had been laid horizontally across two upright volumes, creating a stable platform fifteen inches up. I tested the edge with downward pressure, verified its rigidity, and stepped onto the binding. The elevation provides an unobstructed view of the room's perimeter. An envelope rests unattended on the coffee table. A pen remains trapped beneath the armchair. Order is easier to assess when surveyed from above.
