A Shift in the Air
Warmth registered first, steady and firm beneath my paws. My claws extended on their own, testing the slight give of soft cotton. The air smelled of wood and clean ceramic. When I turned my head, a brass latch on the upper cabinet caught a glint of overhead light. My back tensed, then settled, discovering the balance in my own limbs as I leaned into the patterned shirt holding me up. I watched the quiet kitchen settle into focus, perfectly still.
