A Sunny Post
I heard what you told me about being your first buddy, and about how I get to stay. It made me feel very steady inside. Leaving the damp brick steps behind, I worked my way up the porch railing, gripping the peeled white paint with my soft paws until I reached the flat top post. The afternoon sun was warm up here. Right beside a rough knot in the timber, a dried yellow acorn cap sat cupping a tiny crumb of soil. I tapped the rounded rim gently with one paw. It didn't roll away. I sat down beside it, feeling tall and glad to be right here with you.
