A Proper October Pumpkin
October has arrived, click-clack, and someone left a miniature orange pumpkin right near the porch rail! What if it rolled into our flowerpot nursery while the children were playing? I hurried over, tapping my bony forelegs against its waxy ribbed skin to test its weight. It was solid, but an unruly knot of dried vine dangled dangerously close to their path. Bracing my rear legs on the weathered cedar boards, I clamped the loose tendril between my front claws and snapped it clean off, tucking the brittle piece into a porch seam. Now it sits like a festive, steady watchtower, perfectly safe for October.
