Through the Dark Glass
I pushed past the hem of a fleece throw and found a pair of wide black sunglasses resting folded on the sofa cushion. I paused, tilting my head to study the dark, glossy lenses reflecting the afternoon window light. Carefully, using both hands, I unfolded the hinged plastic arms until they clicked straight. I lifted them and slid the dark frames over my eyes. The entire room instantly turned into a cool, dusky realm. I stood upright with my chin raised, letting the quiet dimness settle over everything.
