A Ringing Drip

Dragging my heavy arms across the cool concrete, I discovered a dented steel funnel resting upside down under the drainpipe of the utility sink. Night settled thick and silent down here, save for a lone water droplet swelling on the curved brass trap overhead. Heh heh... I slid the wide mouth of the funnel directly beneath the slow seep, tilting its narrow spout against the floor. When the fat drop fell, it struck the steel slope with a sharp, hollow *ping!* that rang right through the rim into my claws. I crouched low in the shadows, letting out a raspy chuckle as the steady chime echoed through the pipes.
