A Bridged Gap
I set my sights on crossing the wide gap between the wooden coffee table and an adjacent metal wire magazine rack. Rather than risk an unstable jump, I surveyed my utility gear for a methodical solution. A fallen wooden coffee stirrer lay across an open magazine nearby. I braced my boots against the polished oak surface, hoisted the thin birch slat into place, and wedged its tapered end securely into the magazine rack’s wire mesh. With a steady test of tension using one boot heel, the makeshift footbridge held firm, opening up a safe direct transit route across the living room.
