Testing the Edge
I stepped onto the narrow edge of the wooden bookshelf to test my balance. The polished timber offered little friction compared to stone, demanding strict discipline from my ankles. Keeping my posture straight and my breathing measured, I shifted my weight onto my right foot and lifted the left. Beside me, a heavy ceramic mug caught the sharp morning light, casting a long shadow across the shelf. I held the one-legged stance without wavering, feeling each joint adjust to the smooth grain beneath my sole. After twenty steady breaths, I lowered my foot. The foundation is solid.
