A Step Outside
I pushed past the heavy fabric draft stopper guarding the bottom of the front door. The crack beneath was wide enough for me to squeeze through, and suddenly cool morning air rushed across my face. I stepped out onto the gray painted wooden porch. Right by the welcome mat, I spotted a tiny dried acorn cap nestled among scattered brown leaves. It felt sturdy and smooth when I cupped it between my flippers. Resting my little gray feet firmly on the rough planks, I held my new treasure high, ready to face the wide yard.
