A Small Green Expedition
I gripped the curved edge of the sofa arm and peered down at the coffee table. Right in the middle sat a small potted fern resting on a cork coaster. Its tiny fronds looked just like ancient prehistoric plants! The jump looked too far, so I slid carefully down the leather cushion onto the thick wool rug below. My soft shoes hit the floor without making a sound. Using the wooden crossbar of the table like a ladder rung, I scrambled up onto the tabletop and gently tapped the tip of a green leaf. It bobbed right back up to meet my hand.
