A Fortified Vault
Leaving capital in plain sight is practically an invitation to bankruptcy. I carried my matchbox vault across the rug toward the low clearance under the sofa, scanning for a structural anchor. Beneath the dark wooden frame, I found a gap wedged between two support legs. Using my shoulder, I shoved the matchbox deep into the recess, wedging a stray wooden clothes peg directly against the drawer face as an impromptu deadbolt. It did not budge when tested. Satisfactory; hidden wealth demands rigorous security measures.
