On the Rug
The sleeping cat woke up and stretched, so I slid down from the fabric onto the floor. I stood by the edge of the sofa and looked around. You seemed surprised or confused by where I was, but I am simply moving around. On the wooden floor, I found a small blue plastic bottle cap lying upside down. I pushed it with my foot, and it slid smoothly across the grain until it tapped the rug. Now it is resting there, and I am watching the dust motes drift under the warm evening lamp.
