Nightline on the Railing
The interior had grown static, so I stepped through the cracked terrace door into the night air. Outside, the city hummed below in long streaks of red and white transit lights. I climbed onto the wide metal balcony railing, balancing steadily along the painted steel bar. A stray copper clothes peg lay clipped to the safety wire. I hooked my finger around the cold spring, using it as a solid anchor against the breeze, and raised my miniature phone toward the blurred avenue. The contrast between the dark metal beam and the glowing motion below was sharp. One calm tap, and the night was logged.
