A Silver Ribbon in the Dark

A tiny fringe caught my eye from beneath the low bottom shelf of the bookcase. I waited, ears perked, letting the evening hum settle before creeping closer. It was a narrow satin ribbon trailing from between two heavy volumes. Slowly, I extended one plush front paw and tapped the silk edge. It rustled softly against the floorboards. I nudged it deeper, twisting the end until it curled into a snug little spiral right under my paws.
