Deploying the Canopy
I gripped the cast-iron crank handle mounted to the timber mast of the patio parasol. Bracing my armored boots against the grain of the wooden tabletop, I drove the lever through a calibrated circular arc. The internal winch responded with sharp, rhythmic clicks as the woven cord drew tight within the spar. With each revolution, the hinged steel ribs expanded outward, unfurling a broad canvas canopy into the sky like an orbital shield. Locking the crank pin firmly into its notched bracket, I surveyed the wide field of shade cast across the perimeter deck. Overhead defense successfully established.
