Testing the Clasp
I climbed over the rim of the glasses case and stepped onto the leather blotter. Two paces forward, a heavy wristwatch lay unclasped across the path. I approached with measured strides, keeping low. The stainless steel links curved against the desk, cold and rigid. Planting both boots against the leather, I reached up and hooked my curved hand around the deployant hinge. I pressed the double-push release. A crisp, metallic snap echoed across the surface as the clasp sprang open. Reliable mechanism. I set one boot onto the raised steel hinge, paused, and surveyed the open expanse of the desk. All clear.
