Taming the Steel Chock
Stalked past the halted board. Down by the asphalt curb sat a heavy triangular wheel chock made of ribbed vulcanized rubber and solid steel. Loose on the grade. Unanchored. I squared my stance, sinking broad soles into the gritty asphalt seam. Jammed both thick claws around the ridged rubber flank. Hauled upward with brute spine drive. Dense weight resisted, scraping stubborn across the tar. With a low snarl, I wedged the blunt wedge dead straight against the rough concrete curb and hammered its apex down with a blunt heel strike. Locked solid. The slope is braced.
