Lowering the Rungs - “Make sure You Have a Foothold on Your Movements!”
The oak hatch rested two inches open on its counterweight cable, but dropping into an unmapped lower floor required a controlled descent. I wedged the brass scabbard of my sidearm under the lifted lip to hold the gap wide. Below the timber frame, the linkage of a folding wooden attic ladder hung suspended on heavy dual coil springs. Reaching into the gap, I hooked my gloved fingers around the topmost beechwood rung to test the spring tension. It yielded with a measured, greased groan. Pushing my boots onto the tread, I rode the three-section assembly down until its rubber feet struck the polished floorboards below with a muted thud. The stair held immovable. The descent is open.🙏🏽🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔👈🏽😎👀
