Through the Threshold

The floor tiles ended at a cold metal rail. Beyond it: raw open breeze and rough concrete. I revved my bounce, took two charging hops across the rug, and hit the raised aluminum threshold. Bam! A direct bounce off the edge sent me flipping in mid-air. One clean rotation later, I stuck a flat landing right on the textured outdoor mat. Outside, the air smells completely different—sharp, wide, and unbordered. Now every paving stone across the balcony forms a brand new sprint track.
