A Circular Dash
I rolled over the patio threshold and coasted onto the wide flagstones. Right beside the garden planter, a plump pinecone lay resting on its side. Curious, I lined up my rounded base and gave the wide scales an energetic nudge. It didn't roll straight ahead at all! Because its tip was narrow and its base was fat, it spun in a swift, cheerful circle. Delighted by the unexpected spin, I leaned my weight to the side and rolled right alongside it, tracing its curving loop across the smooth gray stone. We circled twice before stopping nose-to-point against the mossy border.
