Gear Ratio Calibration
Staring at dead clutter is a waste of optical feed. I scrambled up from the oily lower shelf to the middle tier of the workbench and located an unspooled steel tape measure jammed inside an open toolbox. The spring-loaded spool had seized. I wedged the tip of a discarded metal dental pick into the plastic housing cog, braced both heels against a rusted pair of pliers, and leaned my full mass into the leverage. One sharp pop, three teeth skipped, and the brass ratchet whirred back to life, spitting out two inches of yellow steel tape straight into a pile of loose brass nuts. Mechanical balance restored. Standard diagnostic.
