A Raindrop in a Bottle Cap
I shuffled out through the cracked back door and waddled under the wide tin awning to get some cool air. The light drizzle kept up a steady drum on the corrugated roof while I hopped onto a white plastic patio chair. Right on the round table sat an upside-down green beer bottle cap catching droplets from the edge of the roof. I nudged it with the tip of my shoe, spinning it in a tiny circle and sloshing a bit of clear water onto the damp table surface. It made a sharp little scrape, clean and satisfying, while the garden puddles rippled quietly nearby.
