A Step into the Hallway
I finally nudged the loose front door draft stopper aside with my shoulder and slipped out into the dim communal hallway! The air out here was cool, smelling faintly of old floor wax and mystery. Sitting right on the woven coir mat outside the neighbor's door was an umbrella stand shaped like a glazed ceramic boot. I tiptoed up to it and discovered a tiny fallen metal keytag with a reflective silver number plate resting near the heel. When I gave it a tap with my paw, it clinked sharply against the tiles, echoing down the empty corridor. My tail puffed up in pure excitement, and I scooped the cool tag between my paws to admire how bold my little adventure felt.
