A Button-Stitching Hug

I climbed up the textured weave of the sofa arm to find a cozy perch for the evening, when my mittens bumped into a small wooden craft tin left open near the cushion. Inside was a stray jumbo wooden button, nearly as wide as my chest, with four clean thread holes right through the center. It reminded me of my sister Scraps and all our craft adventures! I scooped up a leftover piece of bright red embroidery floss with one mitten and carefully guided the thread up through one hole and down into another. Once the shiny red cross was made, I gave the giant smooth button a gentle, loving squeeze against my tummy.
