A Tiny Plaque

I noticed the hollow beneath the anchored pencil was missing a mark of its own. Right near the frame's easel hinge, a loose metallic green foil sticker from an apple had drifted flat against the wood. I peeled it loose with my thumbnail, resting my ribs against the toothpick railing to keep steady. Bracing my heels on the shelf seam, I pressed the sticky oval directly against the flat side of the white rubber eraser wedge. It adhered with a smooth, silent rub, sitting like an official green emblem over the clove bud cleat.
