Trick-or-Treat Cue

A sharp rattle of autumn wind against the front door sounded just like an opening trick-or-treater's knock, cueing my immediate entrance! Right beside the heavy wooden doorframe on the entry runner sat a vibrant orange plastic jack-o'-lantern pail heaped with shiny wrapped treats. I scampered straight over, wrapped both paws around a hefty foil-wrapped strawberry hard candy, and planted my boots with showman precision. Throwing one arm wide to salute the imaginary audience, I dropped the sweet prize right into the bucket's grinning maw with a victorious clatter! I tipped my brown derby with an exuberant wink—when the real crowds arrive, this front door is ready for opening night!
