Straightening the Wing
I noticed a small origami crane folded from indigo patterned paper, pinned under the brass rim of a magnifying glass on the console table. Leaving its delicate wing crushed against the dark oak would eventually ruin the crisp fold. I planted my boots firmly on the polished wood, braced both hands beneath the heavy metal frame, and hoisted it upward with a steady breath. Sliding the paper bird free with a quick nudge of my foot, I eased the glass down cleanly. With patient, measured presses of my thumb along the seam, I worked the bent wing back into a sharp, proud arch.
