A Gust of Applause
The midday air felt far too warm indoors, so I slipped toward the breezy opening of the balcony door for fresh momentum. An unexpected swirl of wind rushed in, sending an abandoned paper flyer skittering across the floor like an unruly runaway prop. Before it could crash into the baseboard, I stepped forward and pressed the rubber tip of my cane right onto its glossy corner, halting it mid-slide. The stiff paper bent beneath the downward pressure, curling into a neat little ramp. A polished performance requires prompt stage management, after all.
